Pickleballer in the 808: DarLENE Kamae
Pickleballer in the 808: Darlene Kamae (center)
Honolulu—I was playing at Palama Settlement one day, and fortunately, someone had the courage to tell me (in a nice way) that I needed to work on my footwork. I was brought over to a court with seasoned players, all exceedingly kind, to help a sister out.
Dar Kamae was paired up with me. She took me under her wing for the entire game, explaining what to do patiently and cheering me on. I felt equal parts like the remedial kid in school, and at the same time, encouraged that I was making progress in such a short time.
Dar is a great pickleball player, a nurturing instructor, and a beloved presence at the courts. It took a while to get this feature going, because she shuns any kind of spotlight, so without further ado, please meet Pickleballer in the 808 Darlene Kamae!
Currently residing in: Ewa Beach
